Winning in the NYC Restaurant World Without A Game Plan

Episode Summary

Cofounder of The Grey Dog tells the journey of growing a multi-location hot spot for locals.

Episode Notes

Without any real business experience or a plan, Dave Ethan and his brother Pete took a leap of faith to open a coffee shop: The Grey Dog. Their business model was simple — keep staff happy and create a place people wanted to be. Not only did their wholesome concept work wonders to bring in loyal customers on the reg, but it also allowed them to expand their coffee shop into a popular restaurant with five locations across NYC within 25 years. Their people-first mantra, sense of responsibility for locally sourced partnerships and warm, inclusive cafe vibe created a trickle effect on their long-term success. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, especially in an area like Manhattan, Dave and Pete continue finding opportunities to grow their business while staying true to their values of a family-owned restaurant that makes both customers and staff feel at home. Hear more about how The Grey Dog was born, what it took to build the business to where it is today, and how they’re overcoming obstacles during the pandemic on the full podcast episode.
